Or I could just get those red and white Hello!  My name is… stickers.  I don’t think I’ll pick up any Chichewa in Malawi, but you never know.

The arm is a purple sunset, surprisingly not where the needle that most hurt went in.  There is also a red rash which a co-worker accused me of scratching in my sleep.  No, it’s just a red rash.  It’s from typhoid, yellow fever, hep A, B, some other kind of tropical disease.  I’m not dying, it just looks that way.

Farewell, goodbye, tiwonana. There is no phrase for expressing the mixed bag of feelings I have about going.  Chimbuzi chili kuti? gets me closer to the toilet but not to any understanding.

So, I’ve been invited to go help out build staff housing in central Malawi for an AIDS hospital there in conjunction with Lifeline Malawi (see side widget).  The whole ‘going to Africa’ thing hasn’t really set in too much yet until the day before yesterday when the Hubster and I got our first round of shots.

I haven’t been able to use my right arm in three days.  Is this normal?

We are all done up for Yellow Fever and Hep A and B, maybe?  Maybe typhoid?  Something dangerous anyway.

And we signed up for those expensive malaria pills even though we wanted to go the cheap route.  The doctor withered us with a cold stare when we tried to explain that we wouldn’t mind becoming delusional (Larium) or take caseloads antifungal creams with us (Doxycycline).  So, we’re getting Malarone, but it’s all good.  I’ll just sell more books…or something.

It’s hard to comprehend, being there.
